I am too Absolutely Small for School
Lauren Child
Joanna Cook
Many children are fearful about starting school the first day, especially Kindergarten. In the book, I am too absolutely small for school, Lola is worried about going to school for the first time. She tries to make up reasons that she does not need to go. Charley, her brother replies to her fears with fun examples about why she needs to attend. She finally realizes that there must be something good about school if Charley was able to explain reasons for every excuse she made up. Lola discovers maybe her older brother is right. On the first day of school she finds a friend! This is something I think would kick of a kindergarten class perfectly. After reading the story, the teacher could ask students about how they are feeling on the first day of school. This could help students find commonalities amongst each other.

i AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THIS BOOK.
This book sounds very cute. I think all students are scared on their first day of school, at least I know I was. It sounds like something that should be read first thing the first days so that the students can relax and feel better about being there. I also think that playing games to find things that are common among the students is a good idea so they can figure out who they might get along with in the class!
After reading your post, I did some research and found this book at the local library. I was immediately entertained with the story of Charlie and Lola! Like you said, this book would be great for the first day of kindergarten. I also agree with Audrey in that EVERYONE is scared and nervous on their first day of school. I loved the illustrations of this book, they were so vivid and colorful. I also liked how Lauren Child incorporated the different numbers and sizes she wrote about. For example, when Lola was talking about how she ate ten cookies, ten cookies were pictured. I think this is a great visual for children! I also thought it was comical when Lola referred to a uniform as a "schooliform." Kids will think that is hilarious!
I think this is a great book that children will be able to relate to. I have added it to my collection!
